Pantone Color of the Year 2014: Radiant Orchid

Written by stephanie | Color Scheme, Crafts, Fashion, Floral, Food, Trends, Wedding Trends

Each year, we look forward to hearing from the color authorities at Pantone, their prediction for the Color of the Year. For 2014, we could’t be more thrilled with their selection, or excited for this color trend to take center stage at future events. Pantone’s 2014 Color of the Year, Radiant Orchid, hits just the right note of a saturated color, but not so deeply jewel toned that it can’t easily adapt to spring and summer color pallet incorporations. Pantone describes their color choice as blooming…

“with confidence and magical warmth that intrigues the eye and sparks the imagination. It is an expressive, creative and embracing purple—one that draws you in with its beguiling charm. A captivating harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid emanates great joy, love and health” – Pantone

We at Solomon Event Planning wish you a radiant 2014, to extra joy, love and health in the coming year!

Currently Coveting: Ladylike Gloves

Written by stephanie | Fall, Fashion, Wedding Gloves, Wedding Trends, Weddings, Winter

While winter weddings can present their logistical challeneges, they certainly broaded the accessories horizon for the big day! We thought we would take a moment to explore what we feel is an underutilized wedding accent, ladylike gloves. There are many interpretations and options; they could be selected for warmth, to introduce a pattern or texture to your gown, we’d love to even see a pop of color! Gloves add a formality and femininity, try donning a pair, much like a veil, just for the ceremony, thus adding to the “unveiling” effect at the reception. Perhaps this coming year, the dainty wedding glove is the new statement shoe in the world of wedding wardrobes?

Wedding Day Jewelry, Reverse Necklace Edition

Written by stephanie | Fashion, Jewelry, Necklace, Trends, Wedding Trends, Weddings

We’ve seen Hollywood’s leading ladies like Blake Lively, Kate Hudson, and Jennifer Lawrence rock the backwards necklace on the red carpet as of late, and think that this is an accessories trend that can easily translate to the aisle. On your special day, where we take time to consider the perfect up-do, the veil, bustle, train and shoes, jewelry selection can often take a backseat to all the other details that go into the bride’s day-of look. We have become quite smitten with the reverse necklace, as a bride really should consider their complete look from front to back, as they walk up and down the aisle. These statement necklaces are perfect for a strapless or open back wedding gown, and compliment a dress with embellished bodice and bust. You’ll be just as striking going as coming!necklace 1necklace3necklace 2becklace5

The Costume Institute, Met Gala 2013

Written by stephanie | Color Scheme, Fashion, Wedding Trends

Are you convinced yet that we LOVE any red carpet and the fabulous gowns that make their way along the event runway? This year’s Met Gala, did not disappoint! With the theme of PUNK: Chaos To Couture, there were plenty of metallics, studs, black and chains on the red carpet, but we were pleasantly surprised to find beautiful, intricate white gowns making an appearance. While these designs are certainly couture, and far from practical, we’d be interested to see if some of these cutting-edge style elements make their way into wedding dress trends for future seasons.

More Metallics!

Written by stephanie | Color Scheme, Fashion, Wedding Trends

While we don’t always look to the Country Music scene for iconic fashion moments, we see that the embellished, metallic trend has made it’s way onto the likes of beautiful Taylor Swift and Jewel at the Academy of Country Music Awards, down the purple carpet no less! Really any event with glitter and gowns will catch our attention, and these gold hued dresses don’t disappoint. We are particularly fond of what we are calling the Rose Gold gown on Jewel, although this look does dance on the line of pageant or prom, but she pulls it off!
